John Decker founded the firm in 2000 to offer efficient, innovative design solutions to what are often complex projects. John has extensive experience designing homes and enjoys the intimate process of working closely with families. Testing convention, the core of creating this personalized space is in understanding the rituals of a family within a home. John has enjoyed exploring the idea of 'home' through design for the past two decades. Whether remodeling an historic craftsman home, or designing a new, contemporary, green, pre-fab backyard cottage, Johns commitment to design and focus on detail produces buildings that reflect the values and spirit of the people who occupy them. He also has extensive experience in commercial Architecture including office, restaurant, retail and hospitality. John is a licensed Architect in Washington State.
What gets me out of bed in the morning: tying a fly on and wetting a line
Shauna Decker Prior to joining SD Architects, Shauna worked with several Architecture firms on large commercial projects located around the country and around the world. Her professional career began at TRA Architects working on the Ben Gurian International Airport in Israel with world renowned Architect Moshe Safdie and SOM. She then went on to focus on the hospitality industry, designing both independent boutique hotels and franchise properties such as Starwood's W Hotel. In order to better assist our commercial clients with the complex issues and challenges that developers are faced with, she continued her studies at the University of Washington focusing on commercial real estate and development.
Shauna served as a chairman for the Seattle Design Review Board, and was involved with the review and approval of several hundred projects during her tenure. Her involvement with the AIA includes chairing the Artist Exhibition Committee and serving on the Executive Board. Shauna is a licensed Architect in Washington State and a member of the US Green Building Council. She is also on the Executive Board for the SAM Contemporary Arts Council.
